VBS 2015: Everest

This year we are climbing Everest at VBS Kids Camp:  Conquering Challenges with God’s Mighty Power!  Life’s challenges have been readily available in the last few weeks.

These life’s challenges have appeared in my life and in those around me.

Just when we least expect a change,

there it is

staring us in the face

daring us to do what?

cave

crumble

charge

cry

have a melt down

scream

or

stand strong in His mighty power

boldly move forward in His strength

be still in His presence

listen to the Holy Spirit

make the wise choice?

So next week we begin VBS Kids Camp, and

I will be watching  to see what God is up to in the lives of

kids

youth

adults

and yes,

me too!

It is going to be amazing,

because we can conquer life’s challenges

with

God’s mighty power.

Our God is able to deliver all of us!

Just wondering what first move

I might have to make.

2 Kings 7:3-15

“There is nothing more powerful than you and God walking together.”

Erwin McManus – 5.17.15

Time for a walk with God

and perhaps a talk or

maybe I should just listen.

But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength.

They will fly high on wings like eagles.

They will run and not grow weary.

They will walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31

Spending time waiting and resting today.

There are not three stages in spiritual life–

worship, waiting and work.

Some of us go in jumps like spiritual frogs.

We jump from worship to waiting to work.

God’s idea is that the three should go together.

They were always together in the life of our Lord.

Oswald Chambers

. . . and thinking on these words.

To Tell The Truth

Is it possible to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?

Challenge:  Try to tell the truth for an entire day.

Reflect:

Do you talk less?  Bite your tongue?

Do you talk slower?

Do you consider your words more carefully?

frame your responses more thoughtfully?

realize that you lie?

Lie to protect yourself or stay out of trouble?

Soul training from A Good and Beautiful Life by James Bryan Smith.

The question is not,

What will I have to give up to follow Jesus?

but rather,

What will I never get to experience if I choose not to follow Jesus?

The answer is clear:

we will forfeit the chance to live a good and beautiful life.

James Bryan Smith, p. 31

We first completed a study on Good and Beautiful God. Now our small group began studying a Good and Beautiful Life tonight.

And what is the point of this religion?  To get us into heaven?  No, to get heaven into us.  To help us discover a relationship with God wherein we enjoy God and are easy in ourselves.  If we can discover such a life, Wesley believed, we can even face our death with calm assurance and the certainty of a joyful eternity.

James Bryan Smith, p. 10

Looking forward to discovering the good and beautiful life that God has for me with some good and beautiful people.

OVERFLOW

As God showers us with comfort through his Word and through other believers, we in turn are to redirect the stream of his mercy to others.  We are not to hoard God’s love, but to overflow with the good news of his compassion to all.

—Barbara Bush

Exactly!  God pours all the good stuff in,

like love,

compassion

mercy

grace

patience

peace

joy

kindness

goodness

faithfulness

gentleness

self-control,

and we then OVERFLOW all this good stuff out!

IT’S TIME TO OVERFLOW!
