To keep moving

I need these “abilities”

my to-do list to move

eliminate the phrase, “It is what it is.”  (That’s a good way to get stuck.)

be responsible

create a sustainable plan

be consistent

be disciplined

keep taking one step forward (even when there are 2 steps back)

have mental fortitude (courage in pain or adversity)

persevere, stubbornness if you will

find focus

grit your teeth determination

emotional strength

spiritual digging

listening prayers (God does the talking.  I do the listening.)

know my limits

set my boundaries

check in the rearview mirror for accomplishments

Doubting Thomas

WOW!  What a moniker to wear!  What a brand for life!  Yet Thomas’ courage to share his disbelief provides the world with great encouragement.  You are blessed if you believe in Jesus even though you have never seen Jesus.

John 20:24-29  (BibleGateway.com) Contemporary English Version

Jesus and Thomas

24 Although Thomas the Twin was one of the twelve disciples, he wasn’t with the others when Jesus appeared to them. 25 So they told him, “We have seen the Lord!”

But Thomas said, “First, I must see the nail scars in his hands and touch them with my finger. I must put my hand where the spear went into his side. I won’t believe unless I do this!”

26 A week later the disciples were together again. This time, Thomas was with them. Jesus came in while the doors were still locked and stood in the middle of the group. He greeted his disciples 27 and said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and look at my hands! Put your hand into my side. Stop doubting and have faith!”

28 Thomas replied, “You are my Lord and my God!”

29 Jesus said, “Thomas, do you have faith because you have seen me? The people who have faith in me without seeing me are the ones who are really blessed!”

Jesus’ words of encouragement to keep on believing even when you can’t see Him, feel His presence, or hear His voice…

Do you believe?

Do you know?

He is alive again!

My path crossed with Kim Tabor when her husband, Brian and I served on staff together.  I read Kim’s book and felt like I sat down and got to have another personal conversation with her about God, life, and figuring it out.  I learned more about her journey, I could hear her voice as she shared her story and encouragement, and I was thankful for our friendship.

So if you need a friend to speak into your life, Finally Free, will do that.  You can trust what Kim has to say and share with you.  Her words are from her heart and experience.

It was nice chatting again, Kim.

I am working on ending the semester well and preparing for the summer well.

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation.  We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly.  We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence, then is not an act but a habit.  Aristotle

Excellence can be obtained if you:

. . . care more than others think is wise;

. . . risk more than others think is safe;

. . . dream more than others think is practical;

. . . expect more than others think is possible.

Heart-shattered lives ready for love

don’t for a moment escape God’s notice.

Psalm 51:17 THE MSG

I hear the most gentle whisper

from One I never guessed would speak to me.

Psalm 80:5 THE MSG

As you, God, gently and powerfully

put me back on my feet.

Psalm 86:17 THE MSG

We are surrounded by God’s love and care in the midst of living.  Being a living, breathing human being means that hard stuff like heartache, loneliness, and failure are a part of experiencing life.

Yet, God who created us, knows us, cares for us, will walk with us

in this life

when invited

by us.

Who is on your “living life well” guest list?

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.”  Matthew 28:5-6

“Don’t be alarmed,” he (angel) said.  “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified.  He has risen!  He is not here.  See the place where they laid him.  But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”  Mark 16:6-7

. . . but the men (angels) said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?  He is not here; he has risen!  Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:  The son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.'”  Then they remembered his words.  Luke 24:5-8

Jesus told his disciples that he would rise from the dead.  The devastation of Friday left them unable to remember the words Jesus had spoken to them.  All the disciples could hear were the sounds associated with Jesus’ arrest, trial, and crucifixion.

What words of Jesus are you unable to hear in the midst of crisis?

Remember Jesus told you

he loves you

he will not leave you

he will not forsake you

he loves you

he is with you

. . . just as he told you.
