Day 2 begins with the first breakout session at 8 am. I attended Facebook My Twitter with Karl Bastian, the Kidologist. Prior to the beginning of the session, the Kidologist showed a spoof on the song, Mary, Did You Know? with Star Wars characters. It was great! Anyway, let’s move onto the Twitter My Facebook session. Since I have just recently in the last few months entered the world of Facebook and Twitter, I was at least familiar with the looks and basic functions of this social media. However, Karl also took us to things like hootsuite.com, twitlonger.com, and futuretweets.com. The world of social media is amazing and crazily changing our personal worlds. It’s time for the church to engage social networking, because everyone is using some form of social networking. So bottom line, get out there and twitter and make some friends on facebook. We are to be RELATIONAL, and facebook and twitter are the new tools. Great session, Karl! Thanks for the tips and tricks! See you on Facebook and Twitter. You can also find Karl on kidology.org.
Breakout session #2 was Growing Children’s Ministries Serving Public Schools: The Opportunities by Forest I. Turpen. Some interesting facts were shared. To get a more comprehensive understanding of church ministries involved and partnering with their public schools, you should attend one of the breakouts on this subject or check out these resources. Thanks Forest for giving us the real facts about religion and our schools.
Christian Educators Association International
It has always been a dream of mine to partner with the public school in close physical proximity to the church building. At one church I served at, there were two young women who wanted to volunteer to being this type of ministry. Unfortunately both women moved before we got organized. It’s still a dream of mine…
Breakout session #3 for me was Video Ideas and Presentation by Kurt Goble. Thanks Kurt for walking us through the conceptual process of developing videos to enhance our students’ learning experience. Lots of creative ideas!
Great reminders
Less is sometimes more.
Keep it simple.
Be relevant.
Don’t do video to do a cool video!
Do a video to engage students in the learning process.
Explore all ideas – good and bad.
General Session #2 – Josh Weidmann was the featured speaker. Text was mark 4:35-41.
…Jesus says, “Let us to to the other side.” – a promise of His presence with us
…sometimes we need to leave the crowd – even our social networking
….has a storm rocked your world?
…when Jesus says, “Quiet. Be still,” could the disciples have been freaking out, going crazy, and perhaps understanding this command for them to be quiet????
…Jesus asks, “why are you still afraid? lack of faith?” Do we have little faith as we live out our lives? REALLY. REALLY.
Great words of encouragement from Josh whether you have survived the storm, are in the middle of the storm, or perhaps see a storm just up ahead, because we all know that they are just ahead of us.
FUN STUFF TODAY
My friend, Lisa, purchased a year’s worth of curriculum and then spun the wheel at the High Voltage booth and won a second year’s worth of curriculum. YEAH, LISA! I am so happy and excited for her. Unfortunately, when she won, I was at another booth. So thank you to all of Lisa’s new friends that cheered for her and celebrated with her at the High Voltage booth.
CPC is a fun place to laugh, learn, grow, make new friends, be challenged, inspired, encouraged…
How would you describe your CPC 10 experience?
